Apical Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy in a Case with Chest Pain and Family History of Sudden Cardiac Death: A Case Report
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common genetic cardiovascular disease, which is caused by a multitude of mutations in genes encoding proteins of the cardiac sarcomere (1). Apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (AHCM) is an uncommon type of HCM. The sudden cardiac death is less likely to occur in the patients inflicted with AHCM (2). Herein, we presented the case of a 29-year-old man ...
متن کاملPrimary Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death in Idiopathic Dilated Cardiomyopathy
Background—Patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and impaired left ventricular ejection fraction have an increased risk of dying suddenly. Methods and Results—Patients with recent onset of DCM ( 9 months) and an ejection fraction 30% were randomly assigned to the implantation of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) or control. The primary end point of the trial was al...
متن کاملPrimary prophylaxis of sudden death in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, and dilated cardiomyopathy.
We present an evidence-based overview of primary prevention of sudden cardiac death. Several recent studies have provided important data regarding pharmacologic and device-based therapy for patients with conditions that confer high risk for sudden death. A rational approach to these therapies, with emphasis on implanted cardiovertor defibrillators, is discussed.
متن کاملSudden death recorded during Holter monitoring.
Six instances of sudden death were recorded by Holter monitoring, which showed ventricular fibrillation in five and a bradyarrhythmia in one. Complex ventricular ectopic activity preceded cardiac arrest in five patients, including the one with the bradyarrhythmic arrest. Two patients with chronic bifascicular block arrested as a result of ventricular fibrillation. Fifteen cases reports from the...

METHODS AND RESULTS Patients with recent onset of DCM (< or =9 months) and an ejection fraction < or =30% were randomly assigned to the implantation of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) or control.
